The future billionaire grew up in a Jewish family; his father was a dental technician. Dell attended Memorial High School in Houston, but he was not particularly successful
a student. Everything changed when the boy was 12 years old. During the holidays, he worked at the post office, persuading residents to subscribe to a city newspaper. He was paid interest for each new customer. An intelligent boy realized that the easiest way to negotiate with those residents who only recently moved to the city. Michael organized an affiliate network; his friends “handed over” the addresses of new settlers to him, and received $ 2 a day from the student. This summer practice brought Della his first $ 2,000.
Michael studied at the doctor at the University of Texas. Then the PCs only appeared on sale, the students dreamed of getting a novelty, but the computers were very expensive.
Therefore, Dell began to purchase inventory from the distributors and modified the equipment right in the dormitory. He sold ready-made solutions by 15% cheaper than standard store prices, and soon not only students but also successful businessmen became his clients. This is how PC’s Limited.
Things quickly went up, and at 19 years old, a young entrepreneur left the university and went into business closely. In 1987, he changed his business name to Dell Computer Corporation. The company faced some problems, but was able not only to withstand, but also to occupy a leading position in the sale of computer products. In 2003, Michael Dell changed his brand name to Dell, Inc., since by that time the product line had expanded significantly. Business acumen and non-standard approach to business earned Dell a serious reputation in the market.
In March 2004, Dell ceased to be a manager, but retained the chair of the board of directors. A year later, Michael, with his $ 18 billion of capital, was in 4th place in the United States and 18th in the world in the Forbes rating among the 400 most wealthy people.
In 2017, he took the 37th line of such a rating, with a fortune of $ 20.8 billion. Such success of Dell and his company can be explained by the willingness of an entrepreneur to take risks, try new things, engage in aggressive marketing – here, not least, his school past played.
